I haven't been exactly chipper since I came back to the Station. I attribute my sour mood mostly to the dreary weather and to my semi-new environment that I've yet to become accustomed to again. I'll admit that I was (initially) mildly disappointed in my new major because I'm not used to being a FTA English major and change really stresses me out, but when I woke up this morning and saw sun pouring through the window I felt the surge of renewed scholastic enthusiasm.
Here's a rundown of the three classes that I had on Friday:
Intermediate Spanish I - I was so terrified of this class on Thursday night that I was considering foregoing a minor in the subject. I thought that I would be the only person in the whole 25-student class who hadn't heard a word of Spanish instruction since high school, but when my prof polled us almost everyone conceeded that they'd gotten credit for Beginner Spanish I&II in high school and most of us are not college freshmen. Plus, my prof reminds me a lot of my of high school Spanish teacher and, despite my lack of exposure, I still understood every Spanish word that she said. I was so excited about that class that I rang my mom right after I left and exclaimed, "Hello! He completado mi primer clase de espanol!"
Intro to Linguistics - My prof is eccentric and fun and the class seems interesting. Apparently, some people understand linguistics and some people just can't get it. With my luck I'll probably be in the latter group.
Marriage and Family Institutions - I think that this class should be fairly easy and pretty interesting so I'm looking forward to it. Plus, I get to take it with my boyfriend so that should ease some of the tedium.
So far, I'm thrilled with the direction that this semester is heading and I'm even pumped to do homework. Let's hope it stays that way.
