In general, I think the rhetoric class I am in right now is a gigantic waste of my time and money ($400 on books that all essentially preach the same anti-Western, anti-Greek, anti-Classical message? Really?). However, one of the required readings for this week is about the history of books, writing, and publishing. Unlike everything else we've had to read so far, it's fascinating and I'll probably put it on my bookshelf after I graduate.
My favorite way to procrastinate is by researching The Big Easy. Right now there are six restaurants on our spring break itinerary, including the best jazz club in the city, the least expensive of Emeril Lagasse's three restaurants, and the historic home of beignets and chicory coffee. I'm also intent on touring a swamp, visiting plantation homes, and snapping a picture of Elysian Fields Avenue from Streetcar Named Desire (I'm an English major, I cannot help it).
I think Diet Coke is the elixir of life. On Friday Sean and I went out to eat and I drank three glasses of the stuff to his one glass of water. Then when we stopped into HEB to pick up a few necessities they were out of 20-packs of my standard Coke Zero, so I got a 20-pack of Diet Coke instead. Now I have to stop myself from drinking three cans a day.
I love love love salad topped with reduced-fat feta cheese, apple chunks, and fat-free Italian dressing. I'd been craving one all week but my fridge was short on lettuce. Thankfully I finally got my hands on a bag on Friday night, but I ate two salads this weekend and now it's gone, which makes me think another trip to HEB is in order.
Sean and I have been on a movie kick this past week. Last Friday we saw He's Just Not that Into You (fun). On Valentine's Day we watched Vicki Christina Barcelona (good!). The next day we watched Baz Luhrmann's Romeo+Juliet (fantastic). On Monday we watched Vanilla Sky (excellent!) On Tuesday we watched Requiem for a Dream (depressing as usual, WTF was I thinking?). Thursday we watched Changeling (frustrating, but good). And last night we watched American Beauty (also depressing, but enjoyable none the less). To top it all off, we're making guiltless guacamole, grilling Mexican hamburgers inside on the Calphalon wunderkind, and watching the Academy Awards tonight (go, Robert Downey Jr., go!).
