The write stuff

I stayed up until 4A.M. scrapbooking and watching Chicago and The Princess Bride and now I'm ridiculously sleepy so the post that follows will not be prize-winning. I apologize in advance.

I read some surprising (and encouraging!) stats today (via MSN Encarta) - "According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, employment for journalists is expected to increase 9 to 17 percent through the year 2014". Good news for a writer who will be ripe and ready for a job between 2009 and 2011. Too bad I don't go to a school that actually offers a degree in journalism...I guess that's what grad school is for!

Little brother asked me on Wednesday what I would do if he decided to go to Columbia University and I told him that I would visit him every weekend! Apparently Columbia has a really good engineering program and since my brother has some grand ideas about graduating from high school and becoming a Texas expatriate I figure New York City would be a good alternative to the Great State. Except they have absolutely nothing in common (other than the fact that I love them both)!

Trey got a free one-month subscription to Blockbuster online from his school today and he promptly turned it over to me. For everyone who subscribes Blockbuster will give Trey's computer science dept. $6 (or something like that). Now, under normal circumstances I usually wouldn't be so easily coerced into supporting such a vile organization, but I really want to rent The Devil Wears Prada and since I'm going to be home for a month with not much to do I've decided to grit my teeth and accept the bribe. I am cheap and am in no way equipped to turn down handouts.
