Amalgamation (n.) - a mixture or blend; combination

Normal people get songs stuck in their heads; English majors get SAT words stuck in our heads. I wonder if I'm the only one of "us" who actually experiences this? Whatever the case, I've been dying to use "amalgamation" in a sentence all day today and I finally managed to fit it at dinnertime. I'm not sure that my parents know the meaning of "amalgamation", but since most of what their gabby daughter says over dinner goes in one ear and out the other anyway, that point is moot.
